Winter in Kentucky can be chilly. Colder weather requires use of extra clothes, heaters and products to help stay warm or safe when outdoors – and sometimes that can expose consumers to hidden dangers. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has identified and recalled several cold-weather products that it says have been found to be unsafe.
One of these recalled products is the ECHO Bear Cat log splitter (120 units). The end cap of the log splitter’s hydraulic cylinder can break away from the body of the log splitter, posing an impact hazard to the user or bystander.
Another item is the Big Lots Portable Ceramic Space Heater (70,500 units), which can overheat and melt, posing a fire or electric shock hazard.
The Harbor Breeze Bath Fan with Heater and Light (68,000 units) has also been recalled. The fan’s heater blades can fail to rotate properly, causing the fan to overheat and posing a fire hazard.
For those headed to the back country for winter activities, Snowpulse Avalanche Airbags (1,200 units in the United States and 2,600 in Canada) should not be used.A leak in the airbag’s cartridge can result in the airbag not deploying, posing a risk of death and injury in the event of an avalanche.
If you or a loved one were injured from one of these products or from any of the other dangerous products recalled by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Frank Jenkins Law Office offers a free assessment of your case to determine if you have legal action that you can take.
To find other recalled products, see http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/. There are a wide variety of products – from bunk beds to Triaminic flu products – listed because of their potential danger to consumers. Be familiar with recalls to keep yourself and family safe.
