Nissan Recalls Nearly 14,000 Altimas Due To Suspension Problems

Nissan is recalling certain 2012-2013 Altima sedans due to loose suspension bolts that could lead to loss of vehicle control and increase the chances of a crash, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

In its recall notice, Nissan said that some Altimas built between May 10, 2012 and July 26, 2012 may have been equipped with transverse link bolts and power steering rack bolts that were not torqued to the proper specifications.  Over time, the bolts could loosen and fall out, increasing the likelihood of a dangerous car accident.

Nissan is expected to begin notifying owners of the recall by Oct. 29, and the affected cars will have the bolts tightened to the proper specifications at dealerships. Owners can contact Nissan Customer Service at (800) 647-7261 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.

While most Kentucky car crashes occur due to driver error, there are cases in which a manufacturer builds or improperly installs vehicle parts that can lead to serious crashes. When lawsuits arise from defective goods, they are called product liability claims. Examples of car parts that are frequently cited in products liability cases include:

  • Seat belts
  • Roofs
  • Airbags
  • Door latches
  • Door locks
  • Accelerators
  • Brakes
  • Tires
  • Seat backs
  • Gas tanks
  • Vehicle structure

Many people who are seriously injured by defective products find that the cost of medical care, rehabilitation and time off work create financial hardships. If you or a loved one have been injured in a car accident caused by a defective car part, it is important to talk with a skilled personal injury attorney with experience in product liability claims. A successful case has the potential to result in a substantial verdict or settlement in your favor, which can be essential to help you on your road to recovery.
