A two-car crash at the interchange of I-24 and Highway 68 injured four people the evening of March 14, according to the West Kentucky Star.
McCracken County Sheriff’s Deputies, who arrived at the scene shortly after 5 p.m., said in a press release that a car driven by Hema Venkata Vemuri, 29, of Cape Girardeau, MO, was trying to cross Highway 68 from the I-24 westbound exit ramp to the entrance ramp, when it collided with an eastbound car on Highway 68, driven by James Mills, 32, of Paducah.
Both drivers were injured, as well as the passenger in Venkata’s car, Samartany Atputhavinayakan, 29, and the passenger in Mills’ car, Tiffany Dudley, 29. All four were transported to local hospitals by Mercy Regional Emergency Medical Service.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department did not say whether any charges were filed, and the condition of those who were injured was not known.
As Kentucky car accident attorneys, we know how devastating a car crash can be, and that’s why we encourage everyone to drive safely. When you get behind the wheel, remember that it’s not just a privilege to drive, it’s a serious responsibility. To help you and your family stay safe, here are some important basics from the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety.
- Anticipate where your car will be, scanning the road ahead so you know what’s coming.
- Keep a 3 to 4 second cushion of space between your car and the vehicle ahead of you. The faster you go, the more space you should allow.
- Signal at least 100 feet before you turn. Before changing lanes, use your turn signal, check your blind spots, and make sure you can see the wheels of the car behind you in the rear view mirror.
Even if you do everything right, however, you can still be the victim of a vehicle accident. If you or a loved one has been injured in car accident, you probably have many questions and concerns. An experienced Kentucky personal injury lawyer can answer your questions and make sure you know your rights.
