Recall Issued for Certain Britax Child Car Seats

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration recently announced a recall on certain models of Britax children’s car seats due to a problem with the chest restraint pads.

According to the recall notice, more than 55,000 car seats produced between June 2012 and August 2012 were manufactured with soft chest pad material that could present a choking hazard to children who chew through it, leading to injury or death.

The recall involves models Boulevard 70-G3, Advocate 70-G3 and Pavilion 70-G3. To address the issue, Britax is providing consumers with a kit containing more durable replacement pads that can be installed on the harness straps. Owners of affected car seats are encouraged to remove the HUGS pad until a replacement pad is received. The seat can still be used without the HUGS pad, according to Britax.

For more information, contact Britax Child Safety, Inc., at (888) 427-4829 or view the Britax safety notice.

In addition to using properly-manufactured car seats, it is important to know Kentucky laws on child restraint systems. In Kentucky, any child under 40 inches tall must be secured in a child or infant seat. Those under 7 years old and between 40 and 50 inches tall must ride in a booster seat. All children over the age of 7 and more than 50 inches tall must be secured with a seat belt.

The Kentucky State Police maintain a website for information about common mistakes that people make when fitting their children in car seats. Our personal injury attorneys strongly encourage you to read through the information and inspect your child’s car seat before hitting the road again.

To find out if your car seat has been recalled, review the manufacturer’s website on a regular basis or go to NHTSA’s recall page.
